What Jean Paul Gaultier Ultra Male actually smells like
Ultra Male is Le Male turned up and made sweeter, and the result is one of the most effective nightclub fragrances ever released. Pear and blackcurrant open it with a fermented, almost boozy quality, mint and lavender give it a familiar barbershop spine, and a thick vanilla-amber base carries it for ten hours or more.
It is very sweet and very loud. Two sprays is plenty. In cold weather it is superb and in summer it becomes cloying quickly. Nobody wears Ultra Male to a job interview and that is fine.
At its price it is one of the best performers on the market. A 10 ml decant is a sensible way to keep it in rotation without owning a large blue torso-shaped bottle.

Yes, notably so — the pear and vanilla combination is close to gourmand. It is one of the sweeter mainstream masculines and it is unapologetic about it.
Le Male Le Parfum is smoother, more vanilla and cardamom, and considerably more grown-up. Ultra Male is fruitier, boozier and better suited to a bar than a dinner.
Ten hours or more on skin and days on fabric. It is one of the strongest performers at its price.
