Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille Decant

Tobacco Vanille is the fragrance that made Tom Ford's Private Blend line a household name, and nearly twenty years later nothing has replaced it. It smells like a wood-panelled room: sweet pipe tobacco, thick vanilla, tonka and a boozy dried-fruit note that gives it a rum-soaked quality. Warm, dense and enveloping, it is closer to a dessert than to a cologne, and it is completely unembarrassed about that.

Performance is excellent — nine to ten hours, with a sillage that leaves a trail in cold air. It is a winter fragrance in the strictest sense; above about eighteen degrees it becomes heavy fast. Two sprays in December is a genuinely lovely thing.

Because it is so heavily cloned, a decant of the original is also useful as a reference point. Once you know what Tobacco Vanille actually smells like, you can judge the dozens of fragrances that chase it, several of which we also carry.
