What Yves Saint Laurent Y Eau de Parfum actually smells like
Y EDP is one of the smartest designer releases of the last decade. Apple, bergamot and ginger give it a clean, slightly sharp opening; sage and juniper add a herbal dryness; and a tonka-amberwood base brings a soft sweetness that stops it from being just another blue fragrance. It is fresh but it has a spine.
Seven to eight hours of wear and confident projection for the first three. It is versatile to the point of being boring in the best way — appropriate at work, at a bar, at a wedding, in July or in October.
For anyone building a first collection on a budget, Y EDP is the fresh slot. A 10 ml decant costs less than a restaurant meal and covers two months of wear.

The EDP is sweeter, warmer and lasts noticeably longer thanks to the tonka and amberwood. The EDT is sharper and more aquatic. The EDP is the better all-rounder and the one most people mean when they recommend Y.
They occupy the same fresh-masculine territory but Y is more herbal and apple-driven where Sauvage is peppery and ambroxan-heavy. Y is somewhat less common on the street.
